A total of 30 films supported by the Sundance Institute, through the
Sundance Film Festival, the Sundance Documentary Fund, and the Feature
Film Program, are now appearing on screens throughout the U.S. The 26
films listed below continue their runs.

Thousand Clouds of Peace
This film by writer/director Julian Hernandez opens in select cities
throughout the spring. The film screened as part of the 2004 Festival’s
World Cinema line up.
BAADASSSSS!
The film by writer/director Mario van Peebles’ screened at the
’04 Festival and continues to open in select cities across the
country through the summer.
Carandiru
Hector Babenco’s eighth feature film was part of the 2004 Festival’s
World Cinema offerings. It is currently playing in select theatres.
The
Clearing
This film from director Pieter Jan Brugge and writer Justin Haythe premiered
at the ’04 Festival.
The
Corporation
This Canadian film from Mark Achbar, Jennifer Abbott, and Joel Bakan
received the World Cinema Documentary Audience Award at the 2004 Festival.
Control
Room
The documentary from Jehane Noujaim was one of the American Spectrum
offerings at the ’04 Festival.
Garden
State
Garden State is the feature writing and directorial
debut of Zach Braff, and was part of the Dramatic Competition at the
’04 Festival. The film is Braff’s debut as a writer/director.
Good
Bye Lenin!
Now playing in select cities, this German film screened as part of the
World Cinema category at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. Director Wolfgang
Becker collaborated with Bernd Lichtenberg on the script.
The
Five Obstructions
Written and directed by Danish filmmakers Jørgen Leth and Lars
von Trier, The Five Obstructions was a Special Screening at the Festival
this year. It appears on select U.S. screens this month.
The
Hunting of the President
This film from writers/directors Harry Thomason and Nickolas Perry was
shown as a Special Screening at the Festival this year. The film is
based on the book by Gene Lyons and Joe Conason.
I’ll
Sleep When I’m Dead
The latest film from British director Mike Hodges and screenwriter Trevor
Preston was shown at the ’04 Festival.
Imelda
This documentary by Ramona S. Diaz is now playing in select cities.
The film was supported by the Sundance Documentary Fund and went on
to screen at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, where Ferne Perlstein
received the Excellence in Cinematography Award for her work on the
picture.
Last
Life in the Universe
Director Pen-ek Ratanaruang collaborated with Prabda Yoon to write the
script for this Thai film that was one of the ’04 Festival’s
World Cinema offerings.
Maria
Full of Grace
Writer/director Joshua Marston brought Maria Full of Grace,
his first feature film, to the Feature Film Program’s Screenwriters
Lab in 2003. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year,
where it received the Audience Award for Dramatic Feature.
Metallica:
Some Kind of Monster
Directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, Metallica:
Some Kind of Monster was screened in the American Spectrum
category of the Festival this year.
Napoleon
Dynamite
Director Jared Hess collaborated with his wife Jerusha Hess to write
the script for Napoleon Dynamite, his first
feature film which premiered at the Festival this year.
Open
Water
Writer/director Chris Kentis’ film screened as part of American
Spectrum during the ’04 Festival. It opens nationwide on August
20.
Riding
Giants
Stacey Peralta’s latest picture was shown as the Opening Night
Film of the ’04 Festival and is playing nationwide throughout
the summer.
The
Saddest Music in the World
The latest film from Canadian director Guy Maddin, who collaborated
with Kazuo Ishiguro and George Toles on the screenplay. The film screened
at the 2004 Festival and is now playing in select cities nationwide.
Seducing
Doctor Lewis
Directed by Jean-François Pouliot and written by Ken Scott, this
French-Canadian film won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at
the ’04 Festival.
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. . .Spring
By writer/director Kim Ki-duk of South Korea, this film was part of
the World Cinema category at the Festival this year. The film is now
playing in select cities.
Stander
Directed by Brownwen Hughes and written by Hughes and Bima Stagg, this
film was one of the Festival’s World Cinema offerings this year.
Supersize
Me
Director/producer Morgan Spurlock is also the subject of this documentary,
which earned the Documentary Directing Award at the 2004 Festival. The
film is now playing nationwide.
Touch
of Pink
Writer/director Ian Iqbal Rashid’s feature film debut screened
in the Premieres section of the 2004 Festival. It continues in select
cities.
Word
Wars
A documentary by directors Eric Chaikin and Julian Petrillo, the film
was shown at the ’04 Festival. It screens in select cities nationwide
throughout the summer.
Zaitoichi
The Japanese film by writer/director Takeshi Kitano is based on the
story by Kan Shimozawa. It was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in
’04 and is now playing in select cities nationwide.
